Future Engineers Raise Money For Trip

“Hello!

This is the New Visions Engineering Class at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, NY. We’re a course for high school seniors who want to go on to become engineers. We’re run through TST BOCES in Ithaca, NY, but our classroom is in Thurston Hall on Cornell’s campus. We give the students an overview of many different types of engineering, from civil to genetic. In this picture, we’re out in an apple orchard that contains hundreds of different varieties of trees, as well as a great number of grape varieties, too! This is one of the local field trips that we’ve been able to take, and it allowed us to explore how engineers and scientists of all stripes were able to come together to do some amazing research on making new varieties that will meet the challenges of the future.

We’re fundraising so that we can take a bigger trip to the Shoals Marine Lab in New Hampshire. We’re partnering with another New Visions program at Cornell to make the trip. We’ll be able to go to the lab, see all the amazing buildings and equipment that they’ve engineered, and check out their research. The trip involves bus travel and accommodations/food on the island (as well as time on a research vessel!), so we’re fundraising to offset that cost.”
