Soccer Team Scores Profits with Lollipops

Fundraising groups like Garden Spot Soccer Club agree that lollipops are the perfect fundraiser with almost no effort. They sold 1728 lollipops in just two weeks. As fund-raiser committee member Joan Perez states, "My daughter actually sold a case all on her own". Other supporters commented, 'We should have been selling these two years ago'. With such an enormous amount of positive feedback, the club ordered another two cases. Congratulations to the hard-working soccer team from New Holland, Pennsylvania!

Ideas for December's Gift-Giving Season

December is the time where holiday spirits are alive, and our minds are filled with thoughts of gift-giving. Choosing the right gift can be difficult, especially when you have so little time. Here are some simple ideas to help you make your list.

Gift Ideas for the Christmas Shopping Season
According to many people, gift-giving is the single most stressful holiday season of the year. And choosing the right gift can be difficult. Follow some of our simple gift ideas below :

Club Memberships & Yearly Subscriptions: Get the gift that keeps on giving. Enroll someone in a subscription program which you can receive on a monthly basis. Magazine and/or DVD subscriptions always comes in handy throughout the year.

Charitable Donations: Help the less fortunate this year by making a donation in someone else's name. Donate to your local charity and enter someone else's name. This helps to encourage more volunteerism and provides more exposure to a charitable cause.

Personalize Gifts: Something that you can call your own. It is always fun receiving a personalized gift that is practical and useful all year round. Add the personal touch with the purchase of an engraved coffee mug or monogrammed scarf.

Homemade Crafts: The time spent on a homemade gift is always appreciated. To make your own gift, go to your local supply store and follow some easy steps to creating something unique and special. For example:

Christmas Soap- You will need: Coarse sandpaper; Soap flakes; Water; Food coloring (red, white and green).

Mix soap flakes with 1/4 cup of water.
Knead mixture until well blended and stiff.
Add a few drops of food coloring while kneading until desired color and texture has been achieved.
Mold into 1- 2" balls.
Roll balls across sandpaper to give even texture all around.
Display near hand washing sinks in a decorative holiday bowl or saucer.

Christmas Ornament Wreath- You will need: Glass ball Christmas ornaments; Circular wire form; Christmas ribbon; Hot glue; Thin wire.

Weave a long length of ribbon in and out of the wire form. Leave the ends crisscrossed and hanging off the bottom.
Attach a bow or Christmas florals to the top using thin wire and/or hot glue.
Glue the ornaments onto the wire form.
Attach a bow and/or Christmas florals to the bottom.

What's In It for Me

It’s a scientific fact that people most often act in their own self-interest first and then consider the needs of others. That is why society places a high value on such selfless acts as the heroism of the firefighter or the courage of a soldier.

So, how can groups that raise funds appeal to the self-interest of a potential supporter?
Define precisely how their contribution will help
Increase the perceived value of what they give
Increase the perceived value of what they receive

Group volunteers need to communicate to each prospect the exact nature of the community benefit. For example, a PTA fundraiser needs to communicate what the net proceeds will be spent on — teacher supplies, playground equipment, etc. Your results will be dramatically higher than just saying that you are doing a fundraiser without specifying what the funds will be used for. A potential supporter should immediately be informed of the amount of school supplies their funds will provide. If it’s new playground equipment, mention the cost of a specific item and link it to their contribution. For example, by stating that a $10 contribution purchases a new basketball or a $30 contribution will buy a swing, the supporter gets a visual image of the result of their fundraising support. That image has the effect of associating a donation with a pleasurable feeling, making it much more likely that the prospect will support your cause.

Besides increasing the perceived value of what they give, you also want to increase the perceived value of what supporters receive. You do that in different ways for different fundraisers — donor recognition items for contributions, more attractive packaging on items being sold for a profit, or making your charity auction a black-tie event.

Each of these approaches increases the perceived value without significantly increasing the cost. That means that each of your supporters will assign more value to what you are offering. That translates into increased funding for your organization.

So, what’s it all mean? Just this. In planning your next fundraiser, be sure everyone knows how to respond to potential supporters when they ask, “What’s in it for me?

Pray for Gifts
Two young boys were spending the night at their grandparents the week before Christmas. At bedtime, the two boys knelt beside their beds to say their prayers when the youngest one began praying at the top of his lungs.

"I pray for a new Mountain Bike..."
"I pray for a new Playstation..."
"I pray for a new DVD Player..."

"His older brother leaned over and nudged the younger brother and said, "Why are you shouting your prayers? God isn't hard of hearing." To which the little brother replied, "No, but Grandma is!"
